: India won independence from British rule in 1947. Gandhi led the independence movement without using a gun. It was a remarkable feat. Gandhi is provably the greatest warrior to descend on earth. His most lethal weapon was non-violence towards those who had subjugated him and his fellow humans all over the world. India was producing about 21% of global GDP before the British rule. It has dropped to about 1% on independence and 1.7% now. It is primarily because Indians could not participate in global industrial revolution. Indians are very entrepreneural. They have immensely succeeded globally. But they are hobbled by a system of governance inherited from the colonial era. They are expected to rise economically again mainly because of their tenacity to be in the forefront of information technology revolution.
